John C. Davis, author of From Blue to Red: The Rise of the GOP in Arkansas, will be presenting a book talk at the Fayetteville Public Library on May 15 as part of the U of A Press Author Spotlight Series. The book delves into Arkansas’s transformation from a Democratic stronghold to a Republican state in a matter of years, examining the political shift that occurred in the state.
Initially dominated by Democrats, Arkansas saw a drastic change in power dynamics with Republicans eventually holding all U.S. congressional positions and state constitutional seats. Davis conducted interviews with various political figures and experts to study this partisan shift, tracking changes in voter preferences and the emergence of a more polarized electorate.
Pearl K. Ford Dowe, coauthor of Remaking the Democratic Party, praised Davis for providing a new perspective on the shifting partisan behavior in the South through the lens of Arkansas. The presentation, expected to last an hour, will include a Q&A session and book signing. Those interested can purchase the book from Pearl’s Books at the event. This free event is open to the public and will take place at the Fayetteville Public Library.
Davis, who serves as the executive director of the David and Barbara Pryor Center and associate teaching professor of political science at the University of Arkansas, has deep roots in the state and resides in Fayetteville with his family.
