Key events of the Russia-Ukraine war on day 884

As the war enters its 884th day, the situation in Ukraine remains dire. On Sunday, July 28, 2024, multiple incidents of violence were reported, with casualties on both sides. A 14-year-old boy was killed in Russian shelling in Glukhiv city, while other civilians were injured in various regions of Ukraine. Ukrainian attack drones hit a Russian bomber, and Russian forces claimed to have captured a village in Donetsk.

In response, Russia’s air defense systems destroyed Ukrainian drones, and there were reports of ongoing fighting in the Pokrovsk area. Ukrainian forces also targeted Russian military helicopters and caused a fire at an oil storage depot in the Kursk region.

On the political front, China denied allegations of supporting Russia’s war effort in Ukraine, while Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban praised Russia’s leadership and cast doubt on Ukraine’s aspirations to join the EU or NATO. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly planning a visit to Ukraine, aiming to promote dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the conflict.

In other news, a Russian Su-34 bomber crashed during a training flight, with the crew safely ejecting. The incident occurred without ammunition on board. As the conflict continues to escalate, the international community remains divided on finding a peaceful resolution.
