Arkansas crops thriving, according to Brownfield Ag News


Arkansas farmers are seeing strong crop progress after a mostly dry week. According to the latest report, all of the state’s corn is silking, with a majority of it in the dough stage and 68% dented. The corn crop is looking good, with 26% in excellent condition, 50% rated good, and 19% fair.

Cotton crops are also doing well, with 96% squaring and 83% setting bolls. Around 27% of the cotton is in excellent condition, while 48% is rated good and 19% fair. The second cutting of hay is 55% finished, and the hay crop is looking healthy with 14% rated excellent, 54% good, and 26% fair.

Peanuts in Arkansas are 92% pegging, with 46% of the crop in excellent condition. Rice has headed, with 3% already mature, and 25% in excellent condition, 57% good, and 15% fair. Soybeans are also doing well, with nearly all blooming, 84% setting pods, and 5% coloring. 15% of the soybean crop is rated excellent, 56% good, and 23% fair.

Overall, Arkansas crops are looking promising, with only 6% of cropland having excessive topsoil moisture levels. Subsoil moisture levels are also in good shape. Farmers are optimistic about the upcoming harvest season, with the majority of crops in excellent or good condition.
