Mike Armstrong, a seasoned track and field official with close to 1,000 meets under his belt, is set to make his Olympic debut in Paris this week. The 65-year-old, who serves as the director of the Christ on Campus ministry at the University of Arkansas, will be officiating several events at the prestigious games, including the decathlon.
Armstrong’s impressive career as an official includes working at NCAA and United States Championships, as well as international competitions around the world. He is highly regarded in the track and field community, being one of only 12 referees at the Olympics and the only American among about 200 officials.
Recognized for his expertise and leadership, Armstrong holds a gold level rating from World Athletics and is the chairman of the Officials Committee for USA Track and Field. His experience includes working at various championships and games in 18 different countries.
Despite his many accomplishments, Armstrong remains humble and focused on ensuring fair and safe competitions for athletes. Known for his calm demeanor and knowledge of the sport, he is respected by coaches and peers alike. Armstrong’s dedication to track and field officiating has been honored with multiple inductions into Hall of Fames and awards, including the prestigious Robert Giegengack Award in 2023.
