Arkansas saw a decrease in residential foreclosures in the first half of 2024 compared to the previous year, with 1,130 foreclosures reported between January and June. However, this number was up compared to the same period in 2022. The four largest metro areas in Arkansas accounted for over 50% of all foreclosures in the state.
Central Arkansas reported 327 foreclosures, Pulaski County being the largest contributor with 190 foreclosures. Northwest Arkansas saw 107 foreclosures, with Benton County leading with 59. The Fort Smith metro had 95 foreclosures, with Sebastian County reporting 53. Jonesboro had 39 foreclosures, with Craighead County leading with 26.
The top five counties with the most foreclosures were Pulaski, Benton, Saline, Sebastian, and Washington. These counties accounted for over a third of all foreclosures in Arkansas. Despite the fluctuations in foreclosure numbers, ATTOM’s analysis suggests a more stable housing market in the state.
Across the United States, there were 177,431 foreclosures in the first half of 2024, a slight decrease from the previous year. States with the highest increase in foreclosure activity included South Dakota, North Dakota, Kentucky, Massachusetts, and Idaho. The states with the highest foreclosure rates were New Jersey, Illinois, Florida, Nevada, and South Carolina.ATTOM CEO Rob Barber highlighted the positive trend of declining foreclosure activity in the first half of 2024, signaling potential stability in the housing market.
