British diver Tom Daley, who first appeared at the Olympics in Beijing at the age of 14, recently won a silver medal in the men’s synchronized 10-meter platform event at the Paris Games. Daley, now 30, came out of retirement last year at the request of his son, Robbie, and was supported by his husband Lance Black and their two children at the Aquatics Centre during the competition in Paris.
Daley expressed that this Olympic journey has been his happiest yet, as he prioritized spending time with his family over rigorous training. He adjusted his schedule to train once a day and has enjoyed his time with his children alongside his diving career. While he and teammate Noah Williams fell short of gold, Daley remains proud of his achievements and the example he sets for his children.
Having started his Olympic career in 2008 in Beijing, Daley won bronze at the London Games in 2012 and Rio Games in 2016 before winning gold in the men’s synchronized 10-meter platform event in Tokyo in 2021. He has become a popular figure both for his athletic accomplishments and his openness about his personal life, including his knitting hobby.
Looking ahead to the next Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028, Daley is keeping his options open. As the oldest diver on the team, he sees the possibility of participating in another home Games in LA. However, for now, he is focused on savoring his current achievements and will make decisions about his future in diving at a later time.
