The Observer’s Arkansas Times Grand Finale

The Observer’s daughter, who just turned 16, surprised her family by taking on a job at the Arkansas Travelers. Despite not being a big shopper or showing much interest in money, she eagerly accepted the position to work in the playground/splash pad area with young children. On July 4th, she volunteered to work on a holiday, reasoning that it meant two more hours towards her next paycheck.

The family drove to Dickey-Stephens Park together to watch Fourth of July fireworks over the Arkansas River. The daughter went in to work, while the family enjoyed hot dogs and drinks in the car. As the evening progressed, the father felt a wave of sadness, reflecting on the passage of time and his daughter’s transition into adulthood.

Despite the initial lack of excitement about staying for the fireworks, the family decided to watch them together. The emotional moment of watching the fireworks with his daughter brought the father a sense of contentment and happiness like no other. The experience allowed him to appreciate the simple joys of life and cherish the memories being created.

Although seemingly unrelated to baseball, the decision to send his daughter the job link ultimately led to a meaningful and unforgettable experience for the family. The father hopes this memory will stay with his daughter forever, and he certainly knows it will stay with him.
