Dr. Oumair Aejaz, a Detroit-area doctor, has been charged with using hidden cameras to secretly film women and children at the hospital where he worked over a six-year period. He recorded children as young as two and women recovering from operations in various hospital rooms, changing rooms, closets, bathrooms, and bedrooms. Aejaz has received multiple charges including sexual abuse of a child, using a computer to create child sexual abuse material, and capturing or recording nude children and women. The sheriff’s office said that the number of victims is unknown due to the large quantity of footage, and they hope that Aejaz is held fully accountable behind bars.
Authorities were tipped off about Aejaz’s behavior in August and raided his home the following day, seizing multiple devices with thousands of videos dating back six years. Aejaz, originally from India, had been working in the United States on a visa since 2011, specializing in internal medicine. He had privileges at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital and Ascension Genesys Hospital, both of which are cooperating with the investigation.
The sheriff’s office is urging anyone who believes they may have been a victim to contact them. Aejaz’s case is described as one of the most disturbing sexual predator cases seen, with his behavior affecting children and mothers at a swim school where he was a person of trust in the community. The investigation is expected to extend beyond Genesee and Macomb Counties to potentially other states and countries.
