Opening of NLRPD Real-Time Crime Center

The North Little Rock Police Department has recently established a real-time crime center that is collaborating with the Little Rock Police Department to combat criminal activity on both sides of the Arkansas River. Both departments have been working together for the past four months, sharing access to public safety cameras owned by each city. While private video feeds are not shared, businesses can choose to share their footage with the police if requested.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to register their private security cameras with the NLRPD real-time crime center, allowing police to access footage in the event of a crime. Businesses in Little Rock have the option to integrate their cameras, providing live access to the police. This integration requires the purchase of a device from Fūsus, a tech company used by both departments and other cities for real-time crime center software.

As of August 22, North Little Rock has 151 registered cameras and 582 integrated cameras, while Little Rock has 1,949 registered cameras and 1,746 integrated cameras. Police do not need a warrant to access integrated cameras if the owner has granted permission, and footage obtained through private cameras is not subject to public records requests.

Both the NLRPD and LRPD real-time crime centers do not use facial recognition technology, and Mayor Scott has assured residents that there are no privacy concerns with the program. The NLRPD real-time crime center is located at the North Little Rock Justice Center while the LRPD center is at the LRPD Headquarters. Efforts are being made to increase the number of registered and integrated cameras in both cities to enhance public safety.
