Daniel Craig has taken on a new role in Luca Guadagnino’s film “Queer”, portraying a drug-addicted gay American in 1950s Mexico. This portrayal is a stark contrast from his James Bond character, with intimate love scenes between two men that are likely to make headlines. Despite the explicit nature of these scenes, Craig is not concerned about the reaction. Guadagnino hopes that audiences will focus on the emotional depth of the characters rather than the sex scenes. The film, based on an unfinished novel by William S. Burroughs, follows Craig’s character as he becomes infatuated with a younger man in Mexico City. Craig and his co-star Drew Starkey underwent movement and dance classes to build intimacy for their roles. The story leads the characters into the jungle in search of a hallucinogenic drug, providing a conclusion to the original novel. The film is one of 21 competing for the Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival. Despite Craig’s long history as James Bond, he was eager to work with Guadagnino on this indie production. The film explores themes of love, addiction, and self-discovery in a unique and emotional way.
