Vice President Kamala Harris confirmed in an interview on Wednesday that she did in fact work at McDonald’s at one point in her life, refuting claims made by former President Donald Trump that she never did. Harris emphasized the importance of acknowledging the hard work of individuals working at fast-food chains and highlighted her own experience working there as a student. Trump, on the other hand, has labeled Harris’ claims about her time at McDonald’s as a “fake story.”
Harris often speaks about her middle-class background and the influence it has had on her perspective, particularly when it comes to addressing the needs of American workers and families. She stressed the importance of providing commonsense solutions to everyday challenges, such as affordable housing, to help more people achieve the American dream. Harris has expressed support for policies like eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay, initiatives that Trump has also mentioned but has not provided detailed plans for.
Despite her emphasis on economic issues, a recent NBC News poll showed that 50% of registered voters believed Trump would be better at handling the economy, while only 41% chose Harris. The poll results were just outside the margin of error, indicating a close divide in public opinion on the matter. Harris continues to advocate for policies that address the needs of working-class Americans and promote economic stability for all.
