Tontitown man David Michael Camden pleaded guilty on Friday to assaulting police officers during the Jan. 6 Capitol riots. The 45-year-old man agreed to cooperate with federal authorities in exchange for other charges not being prosecuted. The maximum penalty for this offense is eight years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
Camden faced charges of assaulting officers, civil disorder, and several misdemeanors related to violence and disruption during the riots. According to prosecutors, he shouted at police, pushed a barricade, and used a fire extinguisher towards officers. He also climbed a media tower and waved a “Three Percenters” flag, a far-right militia reference.
The sentencing will be determined by Judge Tanya S. Chutkan on January 10 in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. Camden’s actions were part of the protest against the certification of President Joe Biden’s electoral victory over former President Donald Trump. More details can be found in the U.S. attorney’s news release regarding the case.
