Matthew Perry’s mother, Suzanne Morrison, recently spoke out about the death of her son almost a year after he passed away. In an interview with Savannah Guthrie on Today, Morrison shared intimate moments she had with Perry before his death. She recalled a conversation where Perry expressed his love for her and seemed at peace. Perry, the only child of Morrison and ex-husband John Bennett Perry, passed away in October 2023 at the age of 54 after being found unconscious in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. The autopsy report revealed that he died from the acute effects of ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic with hallucinogenic properties.
Perry had been vocal about his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction as well as depression over the years. Prior to his death, he had reportedly been clean for 19 months. Los Angeles prosecutors later charged five individuals, including his personal assistant, doctors, and a drug dealer, in connection with his death. They were accused of taking advantage of Perry’s addiction for personal gain.
Morrison reflected on Perry’s last days and revealed that he seemed to have a sense of inevitability about what was to come. She expressed concern about his lack of fear and worried about his well-being. The family released a statement expressing their heartbreak over Perry’s death and their hope for justice to be served in the case. Perry’s tragic death shed light on the issue of addiction and the devastating consequences it can have on individuals and their loved ones.
