Federal Judge Lewis Liman declined to postpone Rudy Giuliani’s court proceedings related to the handover of his assets to former Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, whom he defamed. Giuliani had requested a delay to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration as president, but the judge deemed his “social calendar” insufficient reason for a postponement. Giuliani’s lawyer argued that he had a “political right” to be at the inaugural events because he consults regularly with the president-elect.
During the hearing, Giuliani expressed financial stress due to his assets being tied up as a result of the defamation judgment against him. Although he has turned over some belongings, including a Mercedes-Benz and access to his apartment, he has resisted handing over the title or other needed items. The trial, scheduled just days before Trump’s inauguration, will determine whether Giuliani must surrender his condo in Palm Beach, Florida, and four World Series rings.
Giuliani continues to appeal the asset turnover order and defamation verdict while also accusing Freeman and Moss of ballot tampering, despite no evidence. He criticized Judge Liman for being a “serious left-wing Democrat” but previously acknowledging his appointment by Trump. Giuliani reiterated that he does not regret defaming Freeman and Moss, despite the ongoing legal battles and ramifications.
