Harding University in Arkansas will be offering a new major in Artificial Intelligence starting in the Fall of 2025. Led by Assistant Professor Joe Faith, the program is said to be the first of its kind in the southeast. Faith, who has expertise in Engineering and Data Science, proposed the major to university officials and emphasized the value of providing undergraduate education in AI, as it is typically only offered at the master’s or PhD level.
The AI major will be part of the Computer Science program at Harding, with additional classes being added to the curriculum. The university plans to focus not only on teaching students to use AI, but also to do so ethically to address concerns about biased algorithms. Faith and university officials believe that AI education will be essential for future jobs and are working to stay ahead of the curve by offering this innovative program.
In addition to the AI major, Harding also has plans to expand AI education with added components for traditional business education as well as a master’s degree program in AI. The school’s Executive Leadership team sees AI education as crucial for the future and believes that the university is taking necessary steps to stay competitive in the evolving job market. Those interested in learning more about the new AI major can find information on Harding University’s website.
