Charles Kushner, Father of Jared Kushner, Chosen by Trump as Ambassador to France

President-elect Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Charles Kushner, a real estate developer and father of son-in-law Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Trump praised Kushner as a business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker who will represent the country’s interests. He also highlighted Jared Kushner’s work in his administration, including on Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, and the Abraham Accords.

Charles Kushner was previously sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 for tax evasion, witness tampering, and illegal campaign donations. He was prosecuted by Chris Christie, who later became a major Trump foe and opponent in the 2016 and 2024 Republican primaries. Christie has described the Kushner case as one of the most loathsome and disgusting crimes he prosecuted.

In 2020, Trump pardoned Charles Kushner among more than two dozen other individuals. The elder Kushner has a wife, Seryl, four children, and 14 grandchildren. Trump’s nomination of him as ambassador to France aims to strengthen America’s partnership with the country, one of its oldest allies. Jared Kushner’s previous work in the White House and his efforts on various issues were also highlighted in Trump’s announcement.
