A shooting incident at Little Rock’s Park Plaza Mall on Friday afternoon created chaos on one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Initially reported as three people injured with non-life threatening injuries, the Little Rock Police Department later updated the number to two injured. The shooting, which took place at 1:44 p.m., resulted in no arrests and no named suspects as of yet.
Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. called the incident a “careless, senseless, and criminal action” that endangered the lives of residents and visitors. Videos posted on social media platforms showed police rushing to the scene and shoppers in a state of panic as they fled the mall.
Holiday shoppers described a chaotic scene inside the mall after reports of gunshots led to an evacuation. Police tape surrounded the mall, and there was a heavy police presence in the area causing traffic congestion. Park Plaza management announced the closure of the mall for the rest of the day on Friday, and it remains unclear if the mall will reopen on Saturday.
Both injured victims in the shooting are expected to make a full recovery. The Little Rock Police Department has launched an investigation into the incident, but no arrests have been made so far. Little Rock citizens and officials have condemned the violence, emphasizing that gun violence is unacceptable in any situation.
