Arkansas political leaders join the fight against crypto-mining

Lawmakers and city leaders in Cabot, Arkansas have come together to oppose the construction of a crypto-mining facility behind the Little Rock Airforce Base. Republic State Senator Ricky Hill and Cabot Mayor Ken Kincade both expressed concerns about the environmental and safety hazards posed by the crypto-mine. Senator Hill also raised national security concerns as the proposed location is close to the air base. Lonoke County Judge Doug Erwin served the company responsible with a cease-and-desist order for not following guidelines for building the facility. Despite this, it remains unclear whether the political leaders will reconsider their opposition if the company complies with regulations. Mayor Kincade vowed to do what’s best for the community and work with county and state officials to remove the facility. Operations have been put on hold, and Interstate Blockchain Holdings has not responded to requests for comment. The opposition to the crypto-mining facility in Cabot signals a shift in the conversation, as it is now the lawmakers and city leaders, not the citizens, who are leading the fight against crypto-mining in the area.
