The Bagel Shop, located in downtown SoMa, has transformed into a cozy dinner destination called Rex’s with a rotating pub-style menu curated by owner Trevor Papsadora. The menu features sandwiches, flatbreads, and dishes like poutine tots and a hearty patty melt. The cozy atmosphere with dim lighting, candles, and flowers provides a nice backdrop for an evening out, complete with a mellow pop playlist. Pop-ups are used by the owners to test new menu items and dishes inspired by global flavors, such as a TGI Fridays-style spinach dip with an Indian twist.
The dessert special, a butter pecan cookie a la mode, has received rave reviews for its decadent combination of textures and temperatures. Despite being one of their slowest pop-ups, Rex’s aims to create a welcoming neighborhood spot for families to enjoy dinner on Friday nights. Papsadora hopes to attract more customers and potentially expand the pop-up to more than one night a week in the future.
Customers like Motley and his wife are already planning future visits after enjoying the savory and playful dishes at Rex’s. The $17 patty melt and Thai peanut sandwich have been stand-out favorites, leaving guests eager to return for more delicious meals. Rex’s is open every Friday from 5-8:30 p.m., offering a mix of walk-in tables and reservations for larger groups.
