Mouaz Moustafa constructs a bridge connecting Arkansas and Syria

Mouaz Moustafa, executive director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force, has spent the past 30 years working to restore freedom to war-torn Syria. Originally from Arkansas, Moustafa’s family moved to the US when he was 9. His work involves providing food, medicine, education, and support to Syrians affected by the conflict. The goals of the Syrian Emergency Task Force include stopping the killing in Syria, lifting sanctions hindering democracy, and seeking accountability for atrocities.

In the past year, Moustafa has traveled to Syria, Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, and around the world to share the Caesar exhibit, documenting mass graves and atrocities in Syria. Moustafa’s friend, Mazen Al Hamada, was recently killed by the Assad regime. Support from Arkansans, including Congressman French Hill and nurse Henry Van Lierop, has been instrumental in providing aid to Syrians.

Moustafa’s hobbies include playing soccer and scuba diving, and he enjoys listening to music while traveling. Despite the challenges and emotional toll of his work, Moustafa remains committed to helping Syria transition to democracy and providing closure for families of victims. Through his efforts with the Syrian Emergency Task Force, he aims to help Syrians rebuild their country and heal from the trauma of war.
