Two top officials at Immigration and Customs Enforcement have been reassigned amidst frustrations in the Trump administration over the pace of immigration arrests. Russell Hott and Peter Berg, responsible for finding and removing immigrants in the country illegally, were reassigned, according to officials. The Department of Homeland Security said ICE needs more accountability and results in its operations. Todd Lyons will now lead Enforcement and Removal Operations. President Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of arrests and releases from immigration custody. ICE has arrested 11,000 criminals over 18 days, averaging about 611 arrests per day. Homan stated that arrests in the interior have tripled compared to last year and emphasized the need for more enforcement. ICE leadership will now have to sign off on all releases from immigration custody. The Trump administration has been vague about the number of people in the country illegally who have been arrested. The reassignments at ICE come amid a push for more decisive action in carrying out mass deportations of individuals in the country illegally.
