Hot Spring County sheriff to plead differently following latest arrest

Hot Spring County Sheriff Scott Finkbeiner is facing serious legal trouble as he awaits a change-of-plea hearing on drug and obstruction of justice charges. The 47-year-old sheriff, who has already been arrested three times, is currently in Saline County jail after allegedly trying to thwart an illicit drug investigation and being in possession of methamphetamine.

Finkbeiner had previously pleaded not guilty to charges including witness tampering, misprision of a felony, and unlawful drug possession. He had been out on bond, but a recent arrest for witness tampering landed him back in jail. Despite these charges, Finkbeiner remains the sheriff of Hot Spring County until further action is taken.

If Finkbeiner pleads guilty, he will be forced to resign from his position as state law prohibits anyone convicted of a “public trust crime” from holding an elected office. There is speculation that his resignation could be part of a plea agreement. In addition to his current charges, Finkbeiner is also facing charges in Hot Spring County for sexual solicitation and unauthorized use of law enforcement databases.

As Finkbeiner awaits his day in court, he is not allowed to carry out any official law enforcement duties. The upcoming change-of-plea hearing will shed more light on the future of Hot Spring County’s troubled sheriff.
