The Northwestern State Demons defeated the University of Central Arkansas Bears 16-6 in a non-conference baseball game at Brown-Stroud Field. The Demons scored five runs in the fifth inning to overcome an early deficit and added four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. UCA’s pitching struggled, issuing 12 walks and hitting six batters while striking out nine. Despite a strong effort from redshirt freshman Lucas Greer, who pitched four innings after returning from injury, the Bears fell short.
UCA managed to tie the game with a four-run fourth inning, but the Demons pulled ahead with a five-run fifth inning. The Bears only scored one more run in the sixth inning on a home run by redshirt freshman Sam Reynolds. NSU’s pitching was dominant, with four pitchers combining for 13 strikeouts and only two walks.
Carter White earned the win for NSU, while Tate Collins took the loss for UCA. Bryce Cermenelli had a strong performance at the plate, going 3 for 5, while Luke Carner and Sam Reynolds contributed with two hits each. Reynolds and Tanner Leonard both had two runs batted in for the Bears.
The series finale is scheduled for Sunday, with the Bears’ home opener set for Tuesday at Bear Stadium, weather permitting. The game showcased the Demons’ offensive prowess and strong pitching, while the Bears will look to bounce back in their upcoming games.
