Hendrix College Students to Present Devised Performance at Cabe Theatre
An ensemble of talented Hendrix College students will be presenting “(title) Unknown | a devised performance” on March 5-8 at the school’s Cabe Theatre in Conway. Devised work, defined as collaboratively creating a new work without a pre-existing script, will showcase the unique talents and viewpoints of the Hendrix Players. Admission is free, but reservations are encouraged.
Directed and co-created by Murphy Visiting Theatre Director Katherine Tanner Silver, the production will use the students’ personal stories as inspiration for the text, imagery, and music. The performance is expected to be imaginative and thought-provoking, exploring themes of transitioning from a home with family to a world of independence and questioning one’s identity.
The cast includes actors from various locations, including Little Rock, Conway, Memphis, Tulsa, Washington D.C., and more. The production will also feature a lead sound designer and stage manager from Little Rock and North Little Rock. Production sponsors include the Hendrix Department of Theatre Arts and Dance and the Hendrix-Murphy Foundation.
Katherine Tanner Silverman, who holds an M.F.A. in European devised performance, is known for her work with Mentalhaus, a Chicago-based, devised theatre company. The performance is expected to use shadow, mass, and physical storytelling to create a memorable experience for audiences.
