Lalmba, a non-profit organization based in southern Colorado, has brought digital literacy to a remote Kenyan village through their Matoso Education and Empowerment Center. Children who had never used a computer before were eager to learn and explore educational resources like encyclopedias, Kenya’s school curriculum, and engaging games. Adults in the community are also excited to learn new skills, apply for jobs, and potentially start businesses.
The introduction of technology has opened up endless possibilities for this community, many of whom had never been exposed to such resources before. Lalmba’s goal is to expand the initiative by providing more computers, books, and internet access through Starlink. The official opening of the Education and Empowerment Center will coincide with Lalmba’s annual fundraising walk in June.
In other news, Southern Colorado is bracing for a powerful spring storm that will bring strong winds and increase fire danger along and east of the I-25 corridor. Red Flag Warnings will be in effect from 11 am until 7 pm, urging residents to be cautious. The storm is expected to impact the region on Monday and Tuesday.
