The Jim Hinkle Spring River State Fish Hatchery has completed stocking ponds in various cities across Arkansas as part of the 2024-25 Family and Community Fishing Program’s winter trout angling opportunities. Around 57,000 rainbow trout were provided to 40 FCFP locations this year, thanks to the efforts of B.J. Vandiver and his team at the Spring River hatchery.
Vandiver’s team went above and beyond to ensure that the trout were stocked at various locations across the state, including securing golden rainbow trout to create more excitement for anglers. Anglers who caught tagged golden trout had the chance to win prize packs and a guided trout fishing trip for two on the Little Red River.
The success of the winter trout stocking program has been celebrated by Maurice Jackson, who noted a significant increase in tag returns this year. He credits the hatchery team for their hard work and dedication to ensuring the success of the special promotion.
Families and friends have enjoyed fishing trips over the winter at FCFP locations, with the stories shared adding to the overall success of the program. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be hosting a live drawing on their Facebook page on March 13 to announce the winners of the trout-fishing trips on the Little Red River.
