Local celebrities and Special Olympics teams go head-to-head in a charity basketball match

Local celebrities, including mayors, meteorologists, and law enforcement, gathered at the Bowling Green Community Center for the Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ sixth annual Celebrity Basketball Game. The event kicked off Developmental Disability Awareness Month and raised awareness for individuals with disabilities. Celebrities walked the red carpet and received awards before playing against the Special Olympics Wood County Wildcats.

The game not only provided entertainment but also helped raise funds for the Special Olympics athletes through T-shirt sales and donations of non-perishable food items at the door. Charese Botjer, the board’s communications and community engagement manager, expressed gratitude for the celebrities’ participation and support in creating joyful memories for the athletes.

The event highlighted the importance of inclusion and support for individuals with developmental disabilities, emphasizing the community’s commitment to raising awareness and recognition. The celebrities’ involvement in the game showcased their dedication to helping create a more inclusive society for everyone.

As the month progresses, the board has planned additional events to continue promoting awareness and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
