Arkansas Tech University is hosting its first-ever Lit Fest on April 18 for high school juniors and seniors interested in writing. The free, one-day program includes breakout sessions and presentations on various literary topics, with instruction from Arkansas novelists and members of the Department of English at ATU.

Those interested in attending can register by April 4, with 200 spots available. The event aims to introduce students to the literary world and show them the possibilities of a career in writing. The program also includes the optional Don’t Know Tough Writing Contest, where participants can write a short story based on Eli Cranor’s novel “Dough Know Tough” for a chance to win cash prizes.

Cranor, an instructor and writer in residence at ATU, hopes to inspire young writers by showing them that a career in writing is possible. The event is part of his efforts to recruit students and introduce them to the campus. He believes in the power of storytelling and wants to encourage students to pursue their passion for writing.

More information about Lit Fest and the Don’t Know Tough Writing Contest can be found on the ATU website. The deadline to submit entries for the writing contest is also April 4. Overall, the event aims to support and nurture the next generation of writers in Arkansas.
