A 17-year-old Wisconsin teenager was arrested in Iowa after running a stop sign and was found to be a person of interest in the double homicide of his mother, Tatiana Casap, and stepfather, Donald Mayer. The couple was found shot to death in their Waukesha home after a welfare check was conducted. The teenager was charged with taking his stepfather’s car and firearm.
The teenager, a high school student with a history of good grades and perfect attendance, was seen driving his stepfather’s car by a neighbor before leaving the state and traveling through several states, as shown by cellphone records. Security cameras at a truck stop in Iowa captured him with the family’s dog.
Authorities found the victims’ gun, driver’s licenses, and spent shell casings in the car, along with evidence that the teenager had left home with the intent to escape. The victims’ family described a close relationship between Mayer and the teenager, who enjoyed working together in the garden.
The teenager’s grandmother, Judith Mayer, expressed shock and disbelief at the events, describing her son’s loving relationship with his stepson and the lack of any known threats that would have led to such violence. The motive for the killings remains unknown as the investigation continues.
