Connecticut police have located a woman, Andrea Michelle Reyes, who was kidnapped from New Haven as a toddler 25 years ago. She was taken by her mother, Rosa Tenorio, who did not have custody of her at the time. Despite efforts by the father and authorities, Andrea’s case went cold until 2023 when Detective Kealyn Nivakoff reignited the investigation. Through interviews, search warrants, and social media, it was determined that Andrea, now in her 20s, was living in Puebla, Mexico.
After confirming her identity through DNA testing, Andrea was able to reconnect with her father for the first time in almost 25 years. The case has highlighted the hard work of New Haven officers and detectives, showcasing that no cold case is ever truly closed. The warrant for Andrea’s mother, Rosa, remains valid within the United States, with authorities suspecting she still resides in Mexico.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children had previously released information about Andrea, aiding in the search by describing her characteristics such as a birthmark on her forehead and a lazy eye. The successful recovery of Andrea after such a long time emphasizes the importance of continued efforts in solving cold cases and reuniting families separated by abduction.
