Bears lose ASUN opener in extra innings

The University of Central Arkansas Bears suffered a tough 6-5 loss in 10 innings to the North Alabama Lions in their Atlantic Sun Conference opener. Despite holding a 5-2 lead after a home run from Sam Reynolds, the Bears could not hold on as the Lions rallied back. North Alabama ultimately secured the win with a walk-off RBI single by Paul Kraska. The Bears had previously won 10 consecutive games against the Lions but were unable to extend their streak in this matchup.

UCA fell behind early in the game but fought back to take the lead with a strong offensive showing. Reynolds, Curtis, and Leonard contributed key hits and RBIs for the Bears. However, UCA’s bullpen struggled to contain the Lions’ offense, allowing runs in the fifth, seventh, and ultimately the 10th inning to seal their fate.

Despite the loss, the Bears showed resilience and will look to bounce back in their next game against North Alabama on Sunday. The team’s closer, Hunter Alexander, put in a solid performance despite taking the loss, striking out three batters and walking four.

Due to expected weather issues, Game 2 of the series has been rescheduled to Sunday as part of a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Fans can catch the action on ESPN+.
