After 22 years in his role as president and CEO of the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement (ACHI), Dr. Joe Thompson announced that he will be transitioning to the role of president emeritus. Craig Wilson, ACHI’s health policy director, will serve as interim president and CEO. Thompson highlighted ACHI’s accomplishments, including the statewide trauma system, tobacco impact prevention, and the success of the Medicaid expansion.
ACHI is a nonpartisan, independent health policy center based in Little Rock that focuses on improving the health of Arkansans through research, advocacy, and program development. Wilson, with 15 years of experience at ACHI, will ensure a smooth transition as interim head of the organization.
Thompson expressed confidence in Wilson’s ability to lead ACHI and highlighted his contributions to health workforce planning and legislative efforts. ACHI regularly publishes white papers and studies on various health issues and data, contributing to the discourse on healthcare policy in Arkansas.
The transition in leadership at ACHI marks a significant change for the organization, as Thompson steps down from his long-held position to take on a new role. Wilson’s leadership will be crucial in continuing ACHI’s mission to improve the health of all Arkansans through evidence-based research and advocacy.
