Airman Quinterius Chappelle is facing charges of second-degree murder in connection with the killing of Sahela Sangrait on an Air Force base. Sangrait’s badly decomposed body was found months after she went missing, with Chappelle accused of killing her on the base. The nature of their relationship is unclear, and neither the Air Force nor Ellsworth Air Force Base have commented. Chappelle, an active-duty airman, had joined the Air Force in 2019 and was arrested on Friday. The U.S. attorney’s office for South Dakota will prosecute the case, with multiple law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. Sangrait, who was Native American, was last known to be in Eagle Butte before planning a trip to California. Chappelle is currently being held in the Pennington County Jail, with no bond set, and it is unclear if he has legal representation. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the FBI’s Rapid City office.
