In a multi-day outbreak in Arkansas, two tornadoes have been rated as EF-4 by the National Weather Service, making them the strongest tornadoes recorded in the current outbreak. The NWS office in Little Rock confirmed the damage consistent with the EF-4 tornadoes near Diaz and Larkin, with peak winds of 190 mph and 170 mph, respectively. These are the first EF-4 tornadoes in Arkansas since 2021 and the first in the NWS field since 2014.
Footage shared on social media showed the devastation caused by the tornado near Diaz, with homes destroyed, vehicles wrecked, and trees uprooted. At least three people, including a police officer, were injured near Diaz. The overall storm system has caused at least 37 deaths and over a hundred injuries across multiple states.
Missouri experienced the highest death toll from the storm, with fatalities also reported in Mississippi, Arkansas, Kansas, and the Texas Panhandle. Additionally, wildfires in Oklahoma, fueled by strong winds from the storm system, resulted in one fatality, 112 injuries, and the destruction of hundreds of homes.
