Arkansas Coaches Prove Age is Just a Number

The trio of head coaches at the University of Arkansas, including John Calipari, Dave Van Horn, and Sam Pittman, are defying the stereotype that old dogs can’t learn new tricks. With an average age of 64.6 years, these coaches are the oldest in the SEC. Despite their age, they have been open about mistakes in their programs and have made changes to address those issues.

In a recent interview, Pittman, the football coach, discussed adapting to the changing landscape of college football, including embracing Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities. He has made strategic moves in the transfer portal to improve the team and has shown a willingness to adapt to new challenges.

Calipari, the basketball coach, also had to learn from mistakes, admitting that a short bench and injuries impacted the team’s performance. Van Horn, the baseball coach, has made changes to the team’s offensive strategy to improve their performance on the field.

Despite their age, these coaches are proving that experience and wisdom can still lead to success in collegiate sports. With a willingness to adapt and make changes, the Arkansas coaching trio is setting an example for coaches of all ages in the SEC.
