Suspicious sabotage at transformer station in Norway results in massive oil leak

A significant oil spill of approximately 60,000 tonnes occurred at a disused electricity transformer station near Oslo after a break-in on Sunday. Norwegian police are investigating the incident in Bærum municipality. The National power grid operator Statnett believe the leakage was an act of deliberate sabotage as part of the facility was tampered with. Efforts to minimize the environmental impact are underway, with oil barriers and absorbents being used to contain and clean up the spilled oil. The harmful oil, which reached the nearby Sandvikselva River and seeped underground, is not harmful to humans. Authorities are working to ascertain the motive behind the break-in and ensure the safety of the area.
