K-pop girl group NewJeans has announced a pause on all activities following a court ruling against them in their dispute with record label Ador, a subsidiary of Hybe, BTS’s entertainment company. The group, formerly known as NewJeans and now performing as NJZ, accused Ador of mistreatment, leading to their split and independent activities. However, a court ruling prevented them from carrying out solo commercial activities, causing the group to announce a pause on all their activities despite debuting a new song at a recent show in Hong Kong.
The group, consisting of members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, expressed their decision as a necessary one in response to the court ruling, although they plan to keep going and protect their values. Ador expressed regret over the group’s decision to perform under a new name and unilaterally suspend activities, citing a valid contract until 2029. NewJeans’ dispute with Ador began when the label replaced their executive producer with an HR specialist, leading to the group’s decision to terminate their contracts. The group, known for their pop and R&B music, has been recognized as an influential group in the music industry and achieved various milestones, such as breaking the Guinness World Record for the fastest K-pop act to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
