After more than 40 years in Park City, Utah, the Sundance Film Festival relocates to Boulder, Colorado.

The Sundance Film Festival, which has been held in Park City, Utah, for over 40 years, will be moving to Boulder, Colorado, in 2027. The decision was made after a year-long evaluation process that included proposals and site visits to different cities. Finalist cities included Cincinnati, Ohio, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Boulder was ultimately chosen for its small-town charm, engaged community, natural beauty, and vibrant arts scene.

The Sundance Institute plans to use Boulder’s downtown theaters and venues as the heart of the festival, with the possibility of utilizing spaces around Pearl Street Mall. Boulder Mayor Aaron Brockett expressed excitement about welcoming the festival to its new home, noting that Sundance’s independent and creative spirit aligns well with Boulder’s culture.

The decision to move the festival was informed by a detailed evaluation of key components essential to creating the Festival, according to Sundance Institute Board Chair Ebs Burnough. He expressed appreciation for the finalist cities and their strong proposals.

While the move to Boulder is being met with excitement and anticipation, there has been no immediate response from Park City Mayor Nann Worel. This story is developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
