‘SNL’ enlists in military planning group chat

“Saturday Night Live” returned from a two-week hiatus with a political satire sketch centered around the recent Signal group chat involving Trump administration officials and The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz set up the chat, mistakenly inviting Goldberg, who published a transcript of the exchange. In “SNL”‘s version of events, the chat included three teenage girls who were confused by strange texts from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The sketch humorously portrayed Hegseth sharing sensitive information about military moves and nuclear submarines in the chat. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also joined in, sharing classified information. As the teenagers realized they shouldn’t be in the chat, the officials made jokes about deportation and the editor of The Atlantic. The sketch ended with Goldberg asking to be removed from the chat. The segment provided a satirical take on the real-life controversy. “SNL” airs on NBC, a division of NBCUniversal, which is also the parent company of NBC News. Country singer Morgan Wallen performed on the show that night.
