April activities at the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas are packed

The Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas is gearing up for a busy April with a lineup of exciting events. Live@5 kicks off the month with a performance by the UAPB Jazz Ensemble on April 4, followed by a production of “The Color Purple” from April 9-13. The musical adaptation tells the story of Celie, a young Black woman in the early 20th-century American South, and her journey to empowerment and self-discovery.

In addition to live music and theater, the center will host Ms. Madkin’s Literacy Class for children aged 3-6 on April 12. This free event aims to foster a love of literacy in a nurturing environment. Yoga in the Loft: Spring into Yoga will take place on April 19, offering participants the opportunity to engage in gentle stretches, mindful breathing, and meditation techniques with instructor Florence Love “FloEssence.”

The Delta Upcycle Challenge Project Showcase on April 22 will highlight innovative solutions created by students in grades 3-12 to reduce waste and promote a cleaner environment. Auditions for “Memphis,” a Tony Award-winning musical set in the 1950s underground dance clubs of Memphis, will be held on April 26-27.

Unfortunately, the Second Saturday Family FunDay event for April has been canceled. With a diverse range of programming, the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas is providing the community with opportunities to engage in the arts, music, theater, literacy, and environmental sustainability throughout the month of April.
