The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) recently recognized the spring 2025 scholarship recipients from Northeast Arkansas counties. A total of 97 single parents from counties such as Clay, Craighead, Greene, Lawrence, Mississippi, Poinsett, and Randolph received scholarships totaling over $137,000. These scholarships are meant to help low-income single parents pursue associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and skilled-trade certificates, with the goal of obtaining family-supporting wages.
The recipients were honored at an awards ceremony in Jonesboro on March 9, where they expressed gratitude for the financial support and the transformative impact it has had on their education and parenting responsibilities. China McChristian from Mississippi County shared her experience and how the scholarship has helped her pursue a bachelor’s degree in social work at Arkansas State University.
ASPSF provides not only financial assistance but also mentoring, financial instruction, and career coaching to help recipients develop essential skills for the workforce. The organization has awarded over $55 million in scholarships to single parents since 1990.
