Pakistani-Canadian man apprehended for illicitly transporting US military technology to Pakistan – Firstpost

Mohammad Jawaid Aziz, a Pakistani-Canadian national, was arrested in Washington for running a scheme to smuggle American technology to Pakistan’s military and weapons programs. Aziz, 67, was detained while attempting to cross into the US from Canada and faces charges under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and Export Control Reform Act. He operated an illicit procurement network through his company, Diversified Technology Services, from 2003 until March 2019, obtaining US-origin goods for prohibited entities in Pakistan. The indictment alleges that Aziz worked to conceal the true end-users of the goods, using front companies and transshipping goods through third countries to evade detection. If convicted, Aziz faces a maximum statutory penalty of 25 years in prison. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts to combat illegal export activities and enforce US export control laws.
