CASA of the 2nd Judicial District of Arkansas, a nonprofit organization that provides advocacy services for abused and neglected children, has been making a significant impact in the Northeast Arkansas community. Since its establishment in the mid-1990s, CASA has worked closely with court personnel, DCFS case workers, foster parents, and more to gather crucial information for the court. With a team of over 100 dedicated volunteer advocates, CASA served 1,000 children since 2017 and helped 266 children in 2023 who were traumatized by family separation and abuse.
The organization covers Craighead, Greene, Clay, Poinsett, and Mississippi counties and primarily serves families from at or below federal poverty households. Children assigned a CASA advocate spend less time in foster care, perform better in school, and are less likely to re-enter foster care in the future. CASA has seen a growth in retention rate of volunteers from 56% to 82% and provides programs like Building Better Futures, which offers skills classes for aging youth in foster care.
As a finalist for the Northeast Arkansas Outstanding Business Awards in the Nonprofit Business category, CASA’s impact on the community has been recognized. Winners will be announced at a luncheon on April 15. Executive Director Angie Tate praised the efforts of CASA volunteers who donated over 2,500 hours of direct advocacy and traveled over 35,000 miles to serve the 2nd Judicial District of Arkansas. The organization’s work in helping children transition into adulthood through programs like housekeeping and home making skills classes has made a lasting impact on the lives of children in the community.
