New Turkey Hunting Tags Introduced by AGFC for the Upcoming Turkey Hunting Season

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) has announced that all hunters in Arkansas looking to hunt turkeys this year will now need to obtain an Arkansas Turkey Hunting Tag. This new requirement is to help the AGFC better estimate the number of turkey hunters in the state. Residents can acquire Turkey Tags for free by going through AGFC’s licensing system, even those with lifetime or disability licenses. Nonresidents, however, will have additional steps and fees to obtain the tag.

Nonresidents under 16 can get the tag for free, while adult nonresidents have two options: purchase the Nonresident Turkey Tag (NTT) for $100 along with their Nonresident Annual Hunting License or purchase the Nonresident Annual Turkey Hunting License (NRTL) with tag for $325. The Turkey Tag is valid for only one year.

AGFC officials have also mentioned the possibility of a Mississippi Turkey Tag for some hunters, as part of a reciprocal agreement between Arkansas and Mississippi. Turkey season in Arkansas begins on April 21 and ends on either April 29 or May 11, depending on the zone. There is a Special Youth Turkey Hunt on April 12-13 for hunters under 16.

All turkeys harvested in Arkansas must be checked through the AGFC website, app, or by phone within 12 hours of capture. Turkeys checked in immediately after harvest do not need tags, but those that cannot be immediately checked require a possession tag. For more information and to apply for Turkey Tags, visit the AGFC website.
