At least two people killed in Yemen’s Saada in US strikes overnight, Houthi rebels report

Yemen’s Houthi rebels reported that at least two people were killed in US airstrikes on the city of Saada, a Houthi stronghold. The strikes also wounded nine others, with footage showing a building collapsing. President Trump intensified the airstrikes in response to the rebel attacks on shipping in the Mideast linked to the Israel-Hamas conflict, resulting in at least 69 casualties. The Houthis denied any casualties among their leadership, but Trump posted a video suggesting otherwise.

The US military has conducted over 200 strikes targeting the rebels, including a recent operation that allegedly targeted Houthi leaders in a gathering in Hodeida. The rebels disputed the US claims, stating that the bombing hit a social gathering during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, killing and injuring dozens. The ongoing American airstrikes have expanded to target ranking personnel and cities, a shift from the previous strategy under Biden.

The airstrikes escalated following Houthi threats to attack “Israeli” ships over aid blockades to Gaza, which resulted in the rebels targeting merchant vessels and American warships. The Trump administration’s airstrikes aim to pressure Iran, which supports the Houthis, over its nuclear program. The campaign continues despite the denial of casualties by rebel-controlled media and the lack of evidence linking the airstrikes directly to Houthi attacks.
