Severe storms cause flooding on roads and power outages for over 100,000 residents in Arkansas

Severe weather has wreaked havoc across Arkansas, with more than 100,000 residents left without power due to uprooted trees, downed power lines, and flooding. Tragically, one weather-related fatality was reported in Little Rock, while a total of 12 injuries have been reported. The entire South and Midwest have felt the impact of the weather system, with at least 15 deaths reported. The state Department of Transportation has recorded multiple accidents and closed highways due to flooding.

The storms have caused extensive damage, with photos showing widespread devastation. With more flooding expected in the coming days, the full extent of the destruction remains unknown. The storms brought straight line winds close to 70 mph, causing significant power outages and further damage. With evacuations and water rescues taking place across the state, the situation remains dire.

Preliminary surveys conducted by the National Weather Service have confirmed two EF-3 tornadoes in Craighead County, with peak winds reaching up to 150 mph. The damage from these tornadoes is just one part of the widespread destruction caused by the severe weather. As recovery efforts continue, it is crucial for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this difficult time.
