Boehler will continue to work on hostage affairs as a special government employee with fewer ethical and financial disclosure obligations. He faced criticism for direct talks with Hamas, as part of efforts to extend a Gaza ceasefire. Boehler is the fourth Trump administration nominee to not make it to a confirmation hearing.
