Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame to Induct Greg Hatcher for Contributions to Wrestling and Youth Sports
Greg Hatcher, originally from Michigan, is set to be inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2025 for his significant contributions to wrestling in the state and his establishment of the Mighty Bluebirds, a non-profit sports program for kids. Hatcher’s journey to Arkansas was unplanned, but it led to the introduction of wrestling at a statewide level and the creation of opportunities for youth in various sports.
Upon moving to Arkansas in 1984, Hatcher noticed a lack of wrestling schools in the state, prompting him to found the Mighty Bluebirds as a way to provide opportunities for young athletes. What started as a small soccer team quickly grew into a multi-sport complex offering a variety of athletic activities for children.
Hatcher’s efforts did not stop there. In 2005, he founded the Arkansas Wrestling Association and worked to get the sport sanctioned by the Arkansas Activities Association. His dedication to growing wrestling in the state led to the establishment of high school wrestling in Arkansas, with the first sanctioned tournament taking place in 2009.
Over the years, Hatcher has continued to support wrestling programs at colleges and universities in the state, including helping to establish the first Division I program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Thanks to his efforts, the program has achieved national recognition and success, showcasing the impact of his work on the sport.
Hatcher’s induction into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame serves as a recognition of his commitment to youth sports and wrestling in the state.
