45 dead in Dominican Republic nightclub tragedy, including celebrities and governor, after roof collapses


A tragic incident at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic has left at least 45 people dead and 160 injured. The Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo collapsed during a merengue concert, with celebrities, athletes, and politicians among those inside at the time. Rescue crews worked for more than 12 hours to search for survivors in the rubble.

The cause of the collapse is still unknown, but it occurred during a concert by popular singer Rubby Pérez, who was injured in the incident. President Luis Abinader expressed deep regret over the tragedy and stated that all rescue agencies are working tirelessly to help those affected.

Among the victims were Nelsy Cruz, the Governor of Montecristi province and sister of MLB All-Star Nelson Cruz, as well as former MLB players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco. Dotel later died from his injuries, while Blanco was confirmed as another victim.

After the collapse, officials worked to coordinate rescue efforts and identify survivors at hospitals. An official at the scene urged the large crowd searching for loved ones to cooperate with authorities and give ambulances space.
