Zelenskyy confirms Ukrainian soldiers are in another region of Russia for the first time

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian troops are active in Russia’s Belgorod region to protect Ukrainian towns near the border. Despite a cross-border incursion in Kursk eight months ago, Ukrainian troops remain in parts of the region while Russian forces have recaptured much of the lost territory. Zelenskyy stated that the main objective is to protect Ukrainian land and communities in Sumy and Kharkiv regions from Russian occupiers.

He mentioned active operations in the enemy’s border areas, specifically in the Belgorod region, and praised the performance of the 225th Assault Regiment. Zelenskyy claimed that the operation in Kursk successfully drew Russian forces away from the main front line in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, reducing pressure on other frontline sectors.

Reports of battles in Belgorod between Russian and Ukrainian troops have been circulating, leading to tension in the area. Russia recently claimed to have seized the village of Basivka in Ukraine’s Sumy region, but Ukrainian military denied this. Russian President Vladimir Putin has been suggesting the creation of a buffer zone along the border.

Overall, the situation between Russian and Ukrainian troops in the border regions remains tense, with ongoing operations and clashes reported in the area. Ukraine continues to assert its presence in regions like Belgorod to protect its territory from Russian aggression.
